What Are the Different Types of Swimming Pools That Exist Today?

Did you know that not all swimming pools are created equal these days? Here are the many different types of swimming pools that exist today.

Imagine waking up on a summer’s day, walking outside dreary eyed and then dive-bombing into your very own pool! That’s sure to liven the sense and bring you a cool, refreshing hit before breakfast.

But the question, if you are going to get a pool, what type should you get? After all, these days there are many types of swimming pools on offer. And you be surprised at some of the interesting options we’re going to take a look at in this post.

So, let’s dive right in and look at some of the different types of swimming pools that exist today.

Above-Ground Pools

If you’re looking for a budget pool option, an above-ground pool might be right up your street. These pools are inexpensive and easier to install in your yard.

Furthermore, you can get temporary above-ground pool structures. These are a great option for the smart homeowner who wishes to use their pool in the summer months and doesn’t want to free up space during the other seasons.

In-Ground Pools

There are various types of in-ground pools to consider. And we have to say, in-ground pools are some of the best swimming pools to check out to get that authentic “lazying by the pool” experience.

However, these pools are more expensive than above-ground versions. Plus, they are harder to install and are permanent. That being said, they’re super fun if you maintain them properly and gorgeous to look at when the sun glimmers over their crystal clear water.

Infinity Pools

People tend to install an infinity pool if their a view worth appreciating. This means these pools tend to be elevated in some fashion.

John Lautner came up with the idea of infinity pools having one edge which has no wall. This allows the water to flow down and be captured somewhere below. This gives the illusion that the water fuses into the skyline, hence the name “infinity.”

Lap Pools

Lap pools are ideal for avid swimmers who want to nail some laps in their very own pool. Since the main purpose of these pools is to do laps, they are often elongated length-wise.

To save money and space in their yard, people tend to make the breadth of their lap pools very narrow. Also, when you need to clean a swimming pool, a narrow breadth will make the job much less of a chore.

Swim Spas

Swim spas are possibly the best backyard pools around these days. Swim spas are a cross between a spa and a pool, with jets of water that allow you to swim against steady water flows.

Since the swimmer in these pools doesn’t need to move, the dimensions of this pool type don’t need to be large. Many swim spas are as short as 12 feet in length, making them ideal for small backyards. Plus, most people opt for heated swim spas so they can use them all year round.

The Various Types of Swimming Pools

There are many other types of swimming pools we could have covered in this post. However, we decided to touch upon some of the more popular versions out there. In the end, it’s your choice to figure out what will suit you and your family best.
