Experts estimated the U.S. roofing market size to have been worth $15.1 billion in 2021. Come 2025; they expect it to grow to $17.64 billion.
Roofing repairs, in turn, account for much of the industry’s revenue. However, a sizeable chunk also comes from replacements. After all, savvy homeowners know that a new roof makes more sense than repairs in some cases.
So then, what are the signs you need a new roof too, and not just repairs?

If you have a slate roof, lucky you, as it can last for 60 up to 150 years. Clay or concrete roofing materials can also last for at least a century. However, if you have an asphalt shingle system, you can expect it to serve you for only about two decades.
Using those figures, determine how close your roof is to its estimated end of service life. For example, if you have a 17-year-old asphalt shingle system, it’s already old and about to expire.
Replacing a roof at that point is in your best interest, as its aging components can give way anytime soon.
Potential Asbestos Exposure

Roofing systems and felt installed before 1980 are likely to contain asbestos. So, that’s another reason to consider replacing an old roof.

Extensive Damage or Missing Sections

One sure sign you have a leaky roof is seeing ugly water stains in your attic. The attic walls and floors may even become wet whenever it rains.
