How to Create a Moving Schedule That Saves Time

We'll help you create a moving schedule that will save you time on the build up to and including the very important actual moving day.

Every year, just over 40 million Americans move home. From large houses to small apartments, moving can be one of the most stressful experiences you will undertake. Did you know it does not have to be that way?

Many people leave moving until the last minute and make huge mistakes. Read on as we discuss how to create a great moving schedule.

Two Months before the Move

Two months may seem like a long time, but there are some elements you need to check and get in place way in advance. The most important is the decluttering process. Start to slowly get rid of all the items you no longer need.

If you are renting, you need to give notice to the landlord. When you know where you are heading, then start to do research about the area. Finally, begin to collect boxes and packing material from friends and family and pack away none essential items.

One Month Before

Most moving companies will need around about a month’s notice. By contacting them after the major declutter, you will have a better idea of how much needs to be moved. Pick an expert company such as Haulin Assets Movers for the job.

The rest of the tasks at this point are mainly administrative. Change your address with the local state departments. Arrange to have your post redirected to the new address and notify any providers, such as banks and insurance companies.

Two Weeks

Two weeks in front is the best time to give your house the deep clean it needs. That way, you are not stressed and struggling to fit it in during the last week. You may even consider hiring a cleaner to do this for you.

Start to address any DIY issues that may need fixing. Remove nails from walls, fill in the holes and cracks then paint over them. Any furniture that is not being used should be taken to bits and packed up.

Finally, begin to clean out the refrigerator and freezer. Cook meals with the leftover and defrosted food, then save them for the coming weeks. This will save a lot of time.

One Week

At least 24 hours before the move day, unplug your freezer and refrigerator. Let them defrost and then clean thoroughly. Disconnect any other appliances like washers, dishwashers, and dryers, then open the doors so moisture can escape.

After this, begin to disassemble and pack everything else. Remove television brackets from walls, wrap smaller appliances and pack up your belongings.

Moving Day

Moving day will be something of a stressful blur. However, there are some measures you can take to ensure you have an easy time at the property.

Firstly, create a box that contains everything essential for the first night and few days. This will allow you to live comfortably while unpacking.

Get some takeaway menus for the new area. With all your food items packed away, you really will need them.

Write Out a Moving Schedule

Now you know how to create a moving schedule, write it out. Tick the items off as you go, making sure you stay on track. You will be surprised how easy the move goes when the big day comes.
